Hypertext is used for a multitude of differing things, from online books in which the reader is able to choose the direction their character moves in the story to ordinary websites to massive databases. It is used to connect scholars to other scholars and ideas to the ideas of others. It can be as simple as moving a mouse cursor over a word to produce a bubble with more, relevant information or it can be as complex as the vast network of connections that hold databases and servers together.
